Brayden Burries: Son of Former College Athlete Parents

Brayden Burries has emerged as a breakout college basketball player in his first season. He helped his team reach the NCAA Men’s Final Four and rose to national attention.

High school roots in San Bernardino

Burries grew up in San Bernardino, California. He started at Riverside Polytechnic High School before transferring to Eleanor Roosevelt after his freshman year.

As a senior, he led Roosevelt to the California CIF State Basketball Championship. He later earned a selection to the 2025 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game.

College rise and draft projections

He now plays for the Arizona Wildcats in the Big 12 Conference. His performance in March Madness included a run to the Sweet 16.

Mock drafts have already placed him among possible first-round picks in the 2026 NBA draft. The draft is expected to occur in late June.

USA Today senior NBA writer Bryan Kalbrosky has described Burries as appearing like a lottery talent. Kalbrosky praised his productivity, defense, ball movement, and ability to make threes off the dribble.

Family background and athletic lineage

Burries comes from a sports-oriented household. His parents, Hannah and Bobby, are both former college athletes who remain active supporters at his games.

Hannah Burries

Hannah played two seasons of collegiate softball at Tennessee. She then spent a graduate season playing basketball at Cal State San Bernardino.

She earned All-Conference honors and completed a business administration degree. Hannah worked as a teacher for six years before joining United Airlines.

She has been with the airline for nearly two decades. Hannah received the United 100 award in 2017 and again in 2023.

Bobby Burries

Bobby was a multi-sport athlete in high school. He focused on basketball at San Bernardino Valley College and at Cal State San Bernardino.

He remains a member of Cal State San Bernardino’s Hall of Fame. Bobby also played professionally overseas.

Brayden credits his father with instilling a winning mentality from an early age. That mindset has helped his ascent to college stardom.

The Burries household

The couple has been together for 21 years. They have five children, each with a name beginning with the letter B.
