Monte-Carlo Masters Preview: Alcaraz, Sinner, Norrie Lead Exciting Lineup

The Monte-Carlo Masters opens the clay Masters 1000 swing this April. World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz, No.2 Jannik Sinner and British No.1 Cameron Norrie lead the field.

The tournament preview notes top names and strong challengers. Alcaraz, Sinner and Norrie lead an exciting lineup in Monte-Carlo.

Rivalry and rankings

Alcaraz is the defending champion at Monte-Carlo. He beat Lorenzo Musetti in last year’s final, 3-6 6-1 6-0.

Sinner arrives having completed the Sunshine Double at Indian Wells and Miami. He did so without dropping a set in either event.

Alcaraz leads Sinner by 1,190 ranking points. Alcaraz must defend about 4,300 points during the clay swing.

Sinner has roughly 1,950 points to defend and none until Rome in May. The ranking battle will shape the clay season.

Team and coaching

Former champion Marion Bartoli praised Sinner’s coaching group. His staff includes Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi.

The support team also lists fitness coach Umberto Ferrara and physiotherapist Alejandro Resnicoff. They receive credit for Sinner’s recent form.

Cameron Norrie and British interest

Cameron Norrie replaced Jack Draper as British No.1. Draper withdrew, leaving Norrie to face Miomir Kecmanovic in the opening match.

If he advances, Norrie could meet fifth seed Alex de Minaur. Last year Norrie reached the French Open fourth round and Geneva semi-finals.

He also won a clay title at the 2023 Rio Open. Norrie will look to build on that clay success.

Venue and draw outlook

The Monte-Carlo Country Club sits in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Alpes-Maritimes. The venue opened in 1928 and offers dramatic coastal views.

The draw suggests a possible Alcaraz versus Sinner final. Fifty-six singles players enter the main draw, with the top eight earning byes.

  • Alcaraz’s section: Lorenzo Musetti, Alex de Minaur, Alexander Bublik.
  • Sinner’s section: Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Felix Auger-Aliassime.
