Primary General Presidency Sustained in Saturday Afternoon Session

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sustained a new Primary general presidency on Saturday, April 4, 2026. The action took place during the Saturday afternoon session of the Church’s 196th Annual General Conference.

Announcement and timing

President D. Todd Christofferson presented the new leaders. Eight new General Authority Seventies were also sustained during the session.

The incoming presidency will begin service on Aug. 1, 2026. The change follows votes taken in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.

New presidency

The new Primary general president is Rosemary K. Chibota. She will serve with Sister Nina M. Garfield as first counselor.

Sister Theresa A. Collins will serve as second counselor. The Primary General Presidency sustained in Saturday Afternoon Session included these appointments.

Rosemary K. Chibota

Rosemary K. Chibota is 58 and lives in South Jordan, Utah. She was born in Malawi and raised in Zimbabwe.

She works as a human resources generalist for the Church. She previously served as senior executive assistant in the Quorum of the Seventy office.

Her education includes a master’s in management and leadership from Western Governors University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in information technology from Colorado Technical University.

She currently teaches Sunday School and serves with her husband as a stake mission preparation instructor. They served as mission leaders in the Alabama Birmingham Mission from 2022 to 2025.

Nina M. Garfield

Nina M. Garfield is 67 and lives in Orem, Utah. She was born in Japan to a Japanese mother and an American father.

She joined the Church while in high school. She is a homemaker and studied at Brigham Young University.

She currently serves as stake Relief Society president. She and her late husband, David Garfield, are parents of five children.

Theresa A. Collins

Theresa A. Collins is 64 and lives in Draper, Utah. She studied special education at Utah State University.

She serves as a nursery leader and as a temple ordinance worker. She also works with her husband as a stake mission preparation instructor.

She and Brother Richard E. Collins served as mission leaders in the Arkansas Bentonville Mission from 2021 to 2024. They are parents of four children.

Released leaders

The outgoing Primary general presidency includes President Susan H. Porter. Her counselors were Sister Amy A. Wright and Sister Tracy Y. Browning.

They were released and will complete their service on Aug. 1, 2026. President Porter and her counselors first began serving in August 2022.

Before that, President Porter and Sister Wright had served as counselors since April 2021. The leadership transition was part of the April 4 conference proceedings.

Conference context

The sustaining took place at the Church’s Conference Center in Salt Lake City. Delegates and members voted during the Saturday afternoon session.
