Kmbc Weather: FIFA Fan Fest in Kansas City closes at 5 p.m. as storms threaten

The Fan Fest in Kansas City will close early at 5 p.m. Saturday and will not reopen, officials said, as severe weather threatens much of the metro. said the change is being made with the safety of the public, staff, volunteers and entertainers in mind.

The move comes as a tornado watch covers much of the area and forecasters warn of damaging winds and hail. Even with the shutdown, the festival was still expected to open its gates at 2 p.m. Saturday as planned, creating a narrow window before weather forces the event to end for the day.

KC2026 also said The Chainsmokers' Saturday evening performance has been moved to Sunday, June 21, after organizers cited the likelihood of severe weather in the metro area. The performance had been one of the marquee attractions at the , and the schedule change adds another layer of disruption for fans planning to attend.

What KC2026 did not say was whether any other performances were being altered because of the weather. The organization said it will actively monitor conditions throughout the day and urged fans to check official KC2026 channels before traveling and to follow instructions from on-site staff.

For now, the festival opens in the afternoon and shuts down hours later, with no return Saturday night. The next update that matters is whether weather conditions improve enough to keep the rest of the Fan Fest program on track after the day is over.
