Fire crews responded Tuesday to a brush fire burning behind the Safeway in the D'Andrea area of Sparks, and authorities moved quickly to protect nearby residents as the fire remained active.
An evacuation order was issued for residents on Vecchio Drive east of Gino Martini Parkway, and a shelter opened at the Sparks Library at 1125 12th St. for people displaced by the blaze. No injuries had been reported.
Details remained limited Tuesday, including the size of the fire and whether any structures were threatened. Authorities had not released information on what may have sparked the blaze, leaving the response focused on containment and relocation while crews worked the scene.
The evacuation order and shelter opening show how fast the fire developed into a public safety issue, even as the most basic questions about the blaze were still unanswered. More information was expected as officials continued to update the situation.
