Gears Of War E Day PS5 placeholder pops on Walmart ahead of Xbox Games Showcase

A .com placeholder for Gears Of War E Day on PlayStation 5 appeared online less than 24 hours before the Games Showcase 2026 and was taken down after it began circulating. A user named Laughing__Man_ posted a link late yesterday; IGN visited the Walmart page before it was removed.

The page listed Gears of War: E-Day Standard Edition for PS5 at $99.99, described the game as a first‑person shooter with a pending ESRB rating, and showed three bullet points labeled "Placeholder 1," "TBD 2," and "TBD 3." The entry read like a store placeholder rather than a finished product listing, but its timing pushed platform questions back into public view.

Gears of War: E-Day was announced in 2024 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. has recently softened some of its earlier exclusivity messaging: an April mission statement emailed to Xbox staff said leadership would reevaluate the company's approach to exclusivity, and in May chief content officer warned the upcoming showcase would still feature "competing logos."

That background is what made the Walmart page notable: recent company signals suggested Microsoft might consider broader platform options for marquee franchises. Executives have been arguing internally about how to present future shows, and described the decision to highlight other platforms as "a miss," saying the company must "adjust for future Xbox shows" and that a platform "must have exclusive content and services."

The immediate contradiction came from reporting on platform decisions. On a Giant Bomb stream, said flatly: "Gears of War: E-Day was going to be on PS5; it's not anymore." He added, "That just happened. Like, it's a decision that just got made." That statement — that the PS5 plan had been canceled — sat uneasily beside a live retail listing that suggested a PS5 SKU had been prepared or at least placeholdered.

The listing renewed uncertainty for players and retailers. Microsoft has publicly walked back some exclusivity language and signaled internal reevaluation, but it has not issued a definitive platform statement for E‑Day. The Walmart placeholder and Grubb's account together created two competing signals within a narrow timeframe: a removed retail page implying a PS5 product entry and reporting that a PS5 release had been scrapped.

With the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 scheduled for later today and a Gears of War: E‑Day Direct set to follow, the practical consequence is simple: the clearest confirmation of platform plans is likely to come from Microsoft's presentations. Until those events air, whether Gears of War: E‑Day will appear on PlayStation 5 remains unresolved; viewers should expect Microsoft to either confirm a PS5 SKU publicly or to solidify the cancellation Jeff Grubb described.
