Amanda Crawford to leave Whdh next Friday after 4 years at station

says her last day at 7News Boston will be next Friday, closing a run at the station that began in August 2020 and quickly moved from reporter to morning anchor. The announcement marks another change for viewers at the Boston station, which has already seen other familiar faces depart this year.

Crawford said she had wanted to be a TV journalist since she was ten years old and that her 17 years in the business took her around the country, from Des Moines and Harrisonburg to Omaha, Orlando, Greenville and Boston. She said the career had been a dream come true, and that she witnessed historic, thrilling and just plain fun stories and events along the way.

She joined WHDH as a reporter in August 2020 and became a morning anchor in June 2021. In announcing her exit, Crawford said it was not an easy decision, but that she is ready for a change. She said she wants a new career with more flexibility in her personal life and is ready to take a break from the news.

“The news can be intense and heavy, and I’m ready to take a bit of break from that,” she said, adding that she is very excited to spend Christmas at home and shut off the 3 a.m. alarm for good.

Her departure follows other recent exits at WHDH. signed off last December, and left earlier this month after more than four years as a weekday reporter and weekend night anchor. Crawford did not say what job she will take next, leaving her final day at the station as the next public marker in a newsroom that has been in transition.

For WHDH viewers, next Friday will be the end of one of the station’s more visible recent runs on morning television. For Crawford, it is the end of a childhood dream and the start of something she has not yet named.
