Kyle Tucker Unveils Dodgers Jersey Number After Signing $240M MLB Contract
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Kyle Tucker has officially debuted his new jersey number after signing a substantial four-year, $240 million contract with the team. During his introductory press conference on Wednesday in Los Angeles, Tucker wore the No. 23 jersey, a number that he has chosen to honor his former teammate Michael Brantley.
Kyle Tucker’s Career Numbers
Tucker’s journey in Major League Baseball (MLB) began with the Houston Astros, where he wore No. 3 for his first two seasons. He later switched to No. 30, a number he held for five seasons. Tucker also carried the same number during his year with the Chicago Cubs in 2025.
Previous Jersey Numbers
- No. 3: Worn for first two seasons with the Astros
- No. 30: Used for five seasons with the Astros and one season with the Cubs
- No. 23: New number with the Dodgers, honoring Michael Brantley
The number 23 was most recently associated with outfielder Michael Conforto, who has not re-signed with the Dodgers and currently remains a free agent. Additionally, it was noted that no Dodgers player has worn No. 30 since Scott Schebler in 2015. Current Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated he plans to utilize Tucker in the batting order as the second or third batter, presumably behind leadoff hitter Shohei Ohtani.
Dodgers Outfield Strategy
In terms of defensive positioning, Tucker is expected to take on the right field role. This shift will likely move Teoscar Hernández to left field while Andy Pages remains positioned in center. Last season, the Dodgers outfield ranked 18th in MLB in outfield outs above average, according to Baseball Savant.
Tucker’s Previous Performance
During the 2025 season, Tucker recorded a batting line of .266/.377/.464, hitting 22 home runs and driving in 72 RBIs despite battling injuries throughout the season. The Dodgers anticipate an improvement in his performance as he enters a healthier 2026 season following a generous $64 million signing bonus.
