Sharks Activate Desharnais; Reassign Leddy to AHL
The San Jose Sharks made significant roster changes on Monday, highlighting the activation of defenseman Vincent Desharnais and the reassignment of Nick Leddy to the American Hockey League (AHL).
Sharks Activate Desharnais
The Sharks confirmed that Vincent Desharnais has been activated from injured reserve. The 29-year-old defenseman is now available to play, following a recovery period from an upper-body injury sustained in late November. His last game was on November 26 against the Colorado Avalanche. Desharnais has not yet recorded a goal this season, but he has contributed two assists in 20 games. He last managed to register a point on November 8 against the Florida Panthers.
Desharnais, hailing from Laval, Quebec, is in his first full season with the Sharks. He joined the team last March, traded for a fifth-round pick, and has been working to solidify his role. Notably, he has scored only one goal in 185 NHL games, which occurred during his time with the Edmonton Oilers in the 2023-24 season.
Leddy Reassigned to AHL
In contrast, veteran Nick Leddy has been reassigned to the Sharks’ AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda. This marks Leddy’s first stint in the minors since the 2010-11 season. The 34-year-old defenseman had been placed on waivers on Sunday and cleared the next day.
Leddy’s season has been challenging, playing only 19 games and providing four assists. His return from injury in November saw him frequently as a healthy scratch, limiting his contributions to the team.
Current Team Standing
The Sharks hold a record of 24 wins, 20 losses, and 3 overtime losses, currently sitting fourth in the Pacific Division. They are maintaining the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, looking to build on their recent performances with the return of Desharnais.
