Pima County’s 911 Communications Center was hit by a statewide 911 network outage Monday, and the sheriff’s department told residents needing emergency response to call its non-emergency line at 351-4900.
The department said in a release at 3:02 p.m. that it was experiencing the outage, a public-safety disruption that left county officials steering callers away from the normal emergency number until service could be restored.
By 4:50 p.m., the City of Tucson said on social media that its 911 system was working and that 911 calls were being received. City officials also urged callers not to hang up until they spoke with a 911 operator.
The reports pointed to a split picture in the region: the outage was described as statewide, but the immediate impact being flagged in public messages was centered on Pima County. The sheriff’s department did not say what caused the disruption or when normal service would return.
An update will be provided when the 911 system returns to normal operation, leaving residents dependent on the alternate number until officials say the network is fully back online.
