Black Bear announced this week that Jason Statham Stole My Bike will open in North American theaters on Aug. 6, 2027, as principal photography on the David Leitch–directed action comedy began — and is already wrapping — during the same production week.
David Leitch directs from a script by Alison Flierl, based on a story by Flierl and Scott Chernoff; Kelly McCormick and Leitch are producing for 87North, with Jason Statham producing through Punch Palace Productions and John Friedberg producing for Black Bear. Meredith Berg and Ethan Erwin are producing for Beryllium Entertainment, while Fifth Season and Tango serve as executive producers.
The announcement confirmed Statham will star in a role described as reminiscent of the CIA field agent he played opposite Melissa McCarthy in 2015’s Spy. Statham’s partnership with Black Bear continues after the two recently completed filming on Guy Ritchie’s Viva La Madness.
For theaters and distributors, the date gives the film a fixed late‑summer slot: Black Bear’s own summer schedule now includes The Rivals of Amziah King on Aug. 14 and Spa Weekend on Aug. 21, while Aug. 6 also carries two studio tentpoles — Disney’s untitled Bluey movie and an untitled Universal event picture — making the date a crowded opening weekend.
The production announcement leaned into what is known and avoided what audiences want next: plot details remain under wraps. That omission is the story’s friction point — a wide gap between a confirmed release timetable and no public outline of the film’s premise, even as cameras roll.
Contextually, the move keeps Statham on a familiar commercial track. His films have surpassed a combined $8 billion at the global box office, with franchises that include The Meg, Fast & Furious and The Beekeeper. The new film will be another high‑profile teaming of Statham with established producers and a director known for action comedy.
Practically, the next concrete date is Aug. 6, 2027: the film’s North American theatrical release. Until Black Bear or the filmmakers disclose story details, that release date is the clearest public milestone for journalists, exhibitors and audiences tracking Statham’s next wide release.
