Canada Teeters on Team Skating Cutline as Schizas Questions Score
Canada’s participation in the team figure skating competition faced unexpected challenges at the Milano MSK Competition Rink. Madeline Schizas experienced a false start when the incorrect music played as she prepared to begin her routine.
Schizas’ Performance
After the mishap, Schizas successfully restarted her women’s short program. She achieved a score of 64.97, placing her sixth among ten participating countries. Despite her initial disappointment with the score, she expressed her enthusiasm for the team event.
Team Standings and Progression
Following three events, including pairs and ice dance, Canada positioned itself fifth overall. The top five nations will move forward to Round 2. The men’s short program, scheduled for Saturday, will finalize the standings.

On the same day, Canadian ice dancers Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier secured fourth place in the rhythm dance with a score of 85.79. They finished slightly behind Great Britain’s Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson, who scored 86.85.
Additionally, in the pairs short program, Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud, who replaced an injured teammate, also achieved a fourth-place finish. Their score of 68.24 fell short of the 76.65 earned by Italian competitors Sara Conti and Niccolo Macii.
