About 70,000 NV Energy customers in Washoe County were without power Tuesday night as a Reno power outage spread across several neighborhoods, including parts of Reno and Spanish Springs.
The outages showed up on NV Energy's outage map in the 89512 and 89511 ZIP codes in Reno and the 89436 ZIP code in Spanish Springs, making the disruption one of the most widespread utility problems in the area that night.
Details about what caused the outage were not immediately available, and NV Energy had not yet said when electricity would be restored. News 4-Fox 11 contacted the utility for information on the cause and the expected restoration time, but had not received a response when the article was published.
For customers in the affected ZIP codes, the immediate question was not how large the outage was. It was how long the lights would stay off. Until NV Energy identifies the cause and gives a restoration estimate, the outage remains an open-ended problem for tens of thousands of households and businesses across the Reno area.
