A 2.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Bel Air, Md., on Monday morning, sending a brief shake through parts of Harford County and as far south as Baltimore County. No damage or injuries were known at the time.
The quake was recorded at 10:02 a.m. on June 15 at 39.617N 76.310W and had a depth of 5 kilometers. The United States Geological Survey put the same temblor at 11:02 a.m. Eastern, about 5 miles northeast of Bel Air North, Md., a small difference in timing that did not change the basic picture: a minor quake, felt by people beyond the immediate Bel Air area.
For residents who noticed it, the event was short and light, but it was still enough to register across county lines. Reports of shaking reached Harford County and Baltimore County, showing that even a low-magnitude earthquake can travel beyond the place where it is first recorded.
What officials did not say was whether any later assessment would adjust the measurement or uncover effects that were not known at the time. For now, the reported picture remains the same: a minor earthquake in Bel Air, no known damage, and no reported injuries.
