Retatrutide-linked Foundayo shows weight loss across menopause stages in Lilly data

said Foundayo produced significant weight loss in women at every stage of menopause, adding fresh detail to one of the drugmaker’s most closely watched obesity programs. The findings, presented June 7, 2026 at the 86th Scientific Sessions, came from post-hoc analyses of the and trials involving more than 1,500 female participants.

In ATTAIN-1, women who were pre-menopausal lost up to 28.0 pounds, or 12.8% of body weight, while peri-menopausal women lost up to 30.4 pounds, or 14.4%, and post-menopausal women lost up to 28.2 pounds, or 14.1%. In ATTAIN-2, which included women with type 2 diabetes, losses reached up to 23.4 pounds, or 11.3%, among pre-menopausal women, up to 18.5 pounds, or 8.9%, among peri-menopausal women, and up to 27.8 pounds, or 13.6%, among post-menopausal women.

At the highest dose, up to 51.5% of women in ATTAIN-1 and up to 44.2% in ATTAIN-2 lost at least 15% of their body weight. Lilly also said women saw meaningful reductions in waist circumference, with decreases of up to 4.9 inches, or 12.5 cm, in ATTAIN-1 and up to 4.3 inches, or 11.0 cm, in ATTAIN-2 over 72 weeks.

The company framed menopause as a major but often overlooked driver of weight gain. It said hormonal changes during menopause can accelerate abdominal fat accumulation and make weight loss harder to sustain, a view echoed by , who said menopause can leave weight gain feeling beyond many women’s control. Batterham added that the results show Foundayo was associated with meaningful weight loss at every stage of menopause, at a time when health risks are rising for many women.

The catch is that these findings did not come from a trial built specifically around menopausal status. They came from post-hoc analyses of two late-stage studies, which means the signal is important but not yet the same as proof from a dedicated menopause-focused program. Lilly said menopausal status has rarely been evaluated as a factor in obesity treatment efficacy, leaving open whether the data will alter prescribing, labeling or the next round of trials. For now, the company has shown that weight loss with Foundayo was not confined to one phase of menopause — and that the pattern held even in women with type 2 diabetes.
