A 31-year-old American Airlines flight attendant was found dead in the surf near Hollywood Beach on June 3 at about 8 p.m., and officials said her injuries were consistent with being struck by a boat.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission identified the woman as Kellie Melinda Williams, whose body was spotted by two fishermen near North Boardwalk and Thomas Street before they alerted police. Williams was originally from California.
American Airlines said it was deeply saddened by the loss of its colleague and extended support to her family, loved ones and coworkers.
Investigators believe Williams may have been snorkeling or diving before her death, but they have not released additional details about what happened in the water. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation, leaving open the central question of how she ended up in the surf with injuries that pointed to a vessel strike.
For now, the case stands as a search for the sequence of events that brought Williams to Hollywood Beach and the boat contact officials believe may have caused her fatal injuries.
