Mundial 2026: Three opening ceremonies set for Mexico City, Toronto and Los Angeles

has scheduled a trio of opening ceremonies for Mundial 2026: Mexico City on June 11, and Toronto and Los Angeles on June 12, bookending a June 10 Countdown Concert that will link the three host cities.

The three ceremonies will be produced by and staged with teams of roughly 260 to 300 people in each city. Each show will run about 30 minutes of musical entertainment and will take place roughly 90 minutes before the scheduled match, with a program that also includes welcome speeches, a flag parade and the presentation of the match ball.

Balich said the shows are designed as a celebration of sport and the passion for football, with each city adopting a clear visual motif: a mosaic to represent Canada’s multicultural identity, papel picado in Mexico and a “super-bright, radiant” cup concept in the United States. He cast the ceremonies as a sign of unity and described them as meant to present a peaceful World Cup, even as political controversy swirls around the tournament at higher levels.

The Mexico City opening ceremony is set for June 11 before Mexico’s match with South Africa and will feature Maná, J Balvin and Tyla. Ahead of that, the FIFA Countdown Concert on June 10 will take place at Mexico’s Auditorio Nacional as part of the event; Los Ángeles Azules, Belinda and are the first performers announced for that show. Elena Rose said she was happy to be included and grateful to bring her father to the concert and to the matches.

The Mexico City concert will be streamed globally on FIFA digital channels and the FIFA World Cup TikTok account, and the Mexico City broadcast of the June 10 show will begin at 7:00 p.m. local time. Tickets for the June 10 Mexico Vibra event are linked with the concert.

Toronto’s opening ceremony comes on June 12 before Canada’s match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. and are scheduled to perform at the stadium ceremony, while the Countdown Concert in Toronto on June 10 will feature Bryan Adams, Nora Fatehi with Sanjoy, Vegedream, AHI and Wyclef Jean. Organizers said the Toronto stage will use a mosaic theme to reflect the country’s multicultural make-up.

Also on June 12, Los Angeles will host the United States’ opening ceremony before the U.S. faces Paraguay. The Los Angeles show will include performances by , LISA, Rema, Anitta and Future. Diplo will present as part of the Los Angeles Countdown Concert on June 10. The three-city concert series is being staged in collaboration with the Grammys.

Practical details matter: each ceremony’s 30 minutes of entertainment is part of a fuller pre-match sequence that organizers say will precede kick-off by about an hour and a half, so fans attending matches should plan arrival times around the longer pre-game schedule. Production scale is also notable — Balich is organizing near-identical teams of more than 250 people in each city to keep the three ceremonies aligned visually and logistically.

What remains unresolved is who else will join the Countdown Concert rosters in Toronto and Los Angeles: organizers have confirmed initial lineups but said additional artists and special guests will be added later. That is the most consequential open question for fans tracking the festival-style build-up to Mundial 2026.
