Wisconsin Department Of Transportation revokes 8 dealer licenses in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles revoked the licenses of eight Wisconsin dealerships, including in Milwaukee, after a hearing examiner upheld the action in April. The revocations became final May 17, after a 30-day appeal period expired.

The decision leaves the dealers unable to legally operate unless one of them wins a successful appeal, and it reaches wholesale dealers in Milwaukee, Arlington, Beaver Dam and Elkhorn. Wholesale dealer licenses let businesses buy and sell vehicles to other dealers rather than the public, which makes the bond requirement a basic condition of doing business, not a technicality.

Fresh Wheel's Auto, near 68th and Villard, failed to maintain a required dealer bond, according to the DMV. Three Beaver Dam businesses — , and — were also among the wholesale dealers whose licenses were revoked at 1645 North Spring Street. The agency did not identify the Arlington or Elkhorn dealerships in the information provided.

The case shows how quickly a licensing problem can turn into an operating problem once the appeal window closes. The hearing examiner affirmed the revocations on April 17, and after May 17 the DMV could treat the licenses as finished unless a dealership persuaded an appeals body to reverse the decision.

For now, the enforcement action is final across the affected dealers, and the only unresolved question is whether any of them can still salvage a wholesale license through appeal.
