Car Accident Lawyer: Multiple I-10 crashes jam Tallahassee during heavy rain

Heavy rainstorms rolled through north Tallahassee on Wednesday evening as the reported a string of crashes on Interstate 10 in Leon County. Seven vehicles crashed on I-10 eastbound and four more crashed westbound, leaving troopers directing traffic around the scene near mile marker 201.

A flipped car was seen on its roof on the shoulder near mile marker 201 at about 6 p.m., and a tow truck hauled it away about an hour later. FHP also reported another collision near mile marker 199 at about 6:12 p.m. and a separate crash on I-10 eastbound near mile marker 203, where troopers said the roadway was clear.

The crashes happened during rush hour, when even a brief slowdown can ripple across the corridor. By 6:25 p.m., there were no reports of widespread closures, and by 6:45 p.m. no one had been transported to the hospital. Traffic was particularly congested westbound from Thomasville Road to North Monroe Street, a stretch that showed how quickly the evening storms turned a routine commute into a backup.

The sequence of wrecks matters because it was not one isolated pileup but several collisions spread across a short section of the interstate within minutes of one another. By 7:30 p.m., traffic appeared to be flowing again, suggesting crews had cleared the most visible hazards and moved vehicles out of the lanes. The next question for drivers is less about whether the interstate reopened and more about how long wet-weather congestion will keep making that part of I-10 fragile whenever storms move through Leon County.
