Netflix Unveils 7-Part Denzel Washington Thriller Remake in Two Weeks
Netflix will release a new adaptation of Man on Fire on April 30, 2026. The show is a seven-episode series based on an A.J. Quinnell novel.
Source material and earlier adaptations
The series draws from Quinnell’s 1980 book. The story was previously adapted for the screen several times.
The most famous film version starred Denzel Washington and was directed by Tony Scott. That 2004 movie grossed $130 million worldwide against a reported $70 million budget.
Critics gave the film mixed reviews. It performed strongly on home video. An earlier 1987 European production featured Scott Glenn in the lead role.

Kyle Killen serves as the showrunner and creator of the new series. He leads the writers’ room and overall creative direction.
