Hulu Launches Development of “The Kindred’s Curse Saga” Series
Hulu and 20th Television have begun development on a TV adaptation of Penn Cole’s bestselling fantasy. The new show will be titled Everflame and will stream on Hulu/Disney+ when completed.
Source material and premise
The series adapts Spark of the Everflame, the opening novel in The Kindred’s Curse Saga. The story follows Diem Bellator, whose missing mother sparks a dangerous investigation.
Diem suspects Prince Luther Corbois, the most feared of the Descended. Mortals live impoverished under the rule of that elite race, and rebellion follows. A central love triangle also drives the plot.
Creative team
Author Penn Cole confirmed the development in a social media statement. She said she has been collaborating closely with showrunner Heidi Cole McAdams for more than a year.
Heidi Cole McAdams will write and executive-produce the series. Her credits include serving as co-creator and co-showrunner on Hulu’s Death and Other Details.
Development status and sales
20th Television is handling development for Hulu/Disney+. Production, casting, and release dates have not been announced yet. The project remains in early stages.
Spark of the Everflame has sold over three million copies since its 2023 publication. The book’s commercial success helped prompt the adaptation interest.
Rights, representation and next steps
Penn Cole named agents Kimberly Whalen at The Whalen Agency and Mary Pender at WME. She said she vetted multiple suitors before choosing this team.
McAdams is also attached to another, undisclosed book adaptation. Fans and industry watchers can expect further announcements as development progresses.
