Providence College Addresses Duncan Powell’s Suspension
Providence College recently announced the suspension of basketball player Duncan Powell following a fighting incident during a game. The BIG EAST Conference confirmed a two-game suspension for Powell, which is in addition to an automatic one-game suspension imposed by NCAA rules.
Duncan Powell’s Suspension Details
The incident took place on February 14 during a match against St. John’s. Powell was ejected from the game after committing a flagrant 2 foul with 14:25 remaining in the second half. Following a review of game footage, officials concluded that Powell engaged in additional combative actions, which qualified as fighting.

Steve Napolillo, the Athletic Director at Providence College, emphasized the institution’s commitment to high standards for its student-athletes and coaches. He stated, “We fully support the suspension that the BIG EAST has issued to Duncan Powell. His actions were unacceptable and do not reflect the values, discipline, or sportsmanship expected of anyone representing Providence College.”
Impact of the Suspension
Due to the three-game suspension, Duncan Powell will miss the following games:
- February 21 game at DePaul
- February 24 home game against Xavier
- February 28 contest at Creighton
