They met at a dog show in the late 1970s and married in 1985. Despite competing against each other, they cherish their shared passion for dogs. Bill expressed, “If one of us takes the big ribbon home, it’s awesome. Doesn’t matter which one.”

The competition began with agility events and transitioned into traditional breed contests. Dogs of all sizes, from tiny Chihuahuas to massive Irish wolfhounds, faced off in multiple rounds leading to the coveted best in show award.

For many handlers, the dog show circuit is a full-time commitment. The McFaddens travel extensively, participating in 150 to 200 shows annually while caring for numerous dogs. Bill remarked on the challenges of managing this lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of having a partner who understands the demands of the sport.
Other couples like Randy and Andrea Huelsemann from Wisconsin also exemplify this passion. They breed and show French bulldogs alongside their full-time jobs. “We do it for just the love of it,” Randy said, highlighting the joy of sharing this hobby.

Notable figures, including actors Lydia Hearst and Chris Hardwick, attended to support their dog, Zoltar. Their enthusiasm added an extra layer of excitement to the event.
