Tommy Rees Expected to Join Falcons as Offensive Coordinator
Atlanta Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski is set to bring in Tommy Rees as the team’s new offensive coordinator. This decision is part of a series of changes following the recent hiring of Stefanski.
Tommy Rees Joins Falcons as Offensive Coordinator
Rees, who is 33 years old, previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns in 2025. Under Stefanski’s guidance, he also held roles as a pass game specialist and tight ends coach before taking over playcalling duties last November.
Coaching Background
- Rees played quarterback at Notre Dame from 2010 to 2013.
- He began his coaching career at Notre Dame, serving from 2017 to 2022 as quarterbacks coach and later as offensive coordinator.
- In 2023, he worked with Nick Saban at Alabama for one season as offensive coordinator.
The Falcons are currently uncertain about playcalling responsibilities for the 2026 season. The recent shift comes after the firing of former head coach Raheem Morris, who led the team to back-to-back 8-9 seasons. Zac Robinson, the previous offensive coordinator, will not return.
Coaching Staff Updates
As part of the restructuring, Stefanski has also kept Jeff Ulbrich as the defensive coordinator. On a related note, former Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan had been considered for the offensive coordinator position, but the focus has now shifted to Rees.
This strategic move aims to bolster the Falcons’ offensive capabilities as they approach the upcoming season.
