Sparks Fire in D'Andrea prompts evacuation order near Safeway

Fire crews were working Tuesday to contain a brush fire burning behind the Safeway in Sparks’ D’Andrea area after smoke rose from the scene and prompted an evacuation order for nearby residents. The fire was still active as crews tried to get it under control.

According to , the evacuation order covered residents on Vecchio Drive east of Gino Martini Parkway. A shelter for displaced residents was opened at the Sparks Library, 1125 12th St., giving people told to leave a place to go as the fire response continued.

Authorities had not said what may have sparked the blaze, and details remained limited, including how large the fire was and whether any structures were threatened. No injuries had been reported. The lack of basic information left the focus squarely on the response itself, with firefighters still on scene and residents waiting to learn whether the order would expand or be lifted.

The fire comes as crews in other places have also had to move quickly when flames and smoke threaten nearby neighborhoods, including a brush fire that sparked fire at a terminal in Russia after a drone strike, underscoring how fast an incident can turn from smoke to displacement. In Sparks, the immediate question was simpler: how much ground the blaze has already covered and whether firefighters can keep it from reaching homes or businesses.

For now, the answer is that the evacuation order remains in place, the shelter is open, and the cause of the brush fire has not been released. The next official update will likely determine whether residents on Vecchio Drive can go home or whether the response has to widen further.
