Dominion Energy restored most of the power outages reported in parts of Dorchester County on Saturday evening after thunderstorms moved through Summerville and left scattered customers without service.
At one point, about 1,284 customers were without power in scattered areas of Summerville, and the utility said the estimated restoration time was 8:00 p.m. Saturday. By 8 p.m., the majority of the outages had been restored.
The disruption was localized, but it still affected a sizeable number of homes and businesses across the area. Crews were dispatched as the storms quickly moved through the region, and Dominion Energy continued working through the evening to bring service back online.
The cause of the outages was still not clear after most customers were restored. Dominion Energy said crews were working to determine what led to the scattered losses of power in Summerville, leaving that question open even as the lights came back on for most customers.
The immediate concern for residents in Dorchester County has eased for now, but the unanswered cause means the utility’s next step is still a review of what happened during the storm and whether more outages could follow if conditions worsen again.
