Seattle fire crews were sent to reports of a commercial building fire in Fremont on the 800 block of NW 42nd St and quickly confirmed a working fire inside a warehouse. The response was then upgraded to a 3-alarm fire as firefighters pushed to get water on the flames and protect the area around the building.
Crews were initially working to gain access to the structure, but later reported they were evacuating the building and shifting to a defensive strategy. From there, firefighters began putting water on the fire from a safe distance while officials told people to avoid the area.
The fire involved a commercial warehouse, a setting that can complicate an attack when crews need room to work and the interior is not immediately accessible. Seattle Fire Department officials also asked nearby residents to close windows and doors to limit smoke exposure while the response remained active.
What remained unresolved was the cause of the fire and whether anyone was hurt. For now, the key fact is that the blaze forced firefighters off an interior attack and into a larger, defensive response as more resources were called in to control it.
