Shacory Carnell Daniels, 39, was charged Monday with felony murder in the May 31 killing of 33-year-old Lartey Solomon during an attempted robbery in downtown Oakland. Prosecutors say Solomon was walking to his car near 14th and Harrison streets when he encountered Daniels, who allegedly tried to rob him before shooting him.
The charge pushes the case into the court process after a deadly encounter that took the life of a registered nurse known by many online as “Nurse Solomon.” Solomon worked for Alameda Health System and Kindred Hospital in San Leandro, and a fundraising page said he left behind a daughter. The page described the loss as leaving “an unimaginable void” and said a daughter had lost her father, parents their son and siblings their brother.
Daniels is being held at Santa Rita Jail on allegations that also include dissuading a witness, pimping, shooting at an unoccupied vehicle and evading police, records show. That separate list of allegations sits alongside the homicide case and underscores how broad his legal exposure is as prosecutors move forward.
Solomon’s death also cut through a life that extended well beyond the downtown block where he was killed. He was born and raised in Ghana before immigrating to the United States, earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Samuel Merritt University and shared health and lifestyle advice on TikTok. For his family, friends and the people who knew him as a caregiver, mentor and health educator, the murder charge brings the case closer to a reckoning but does not yet explain what evidence prosecutors plan to use to prove felony murder.
Daniels has a plea hearing scheduled for June 30.
