Las Vegas police said 28-year-old Christopher Guerra is in custody after a Tuesday afternoon shooting in east Las Vegas left one man dead and another wounded. Officers responded to the 4800 block of E. Flamingo Road near Boulder Highway after a ShotSpotter alert reported gunfire in the area.
When officers arrived, they found two men lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds. One was taken to Sunrise Hospital in stable condition, while the other died at the scene, police said.
Detectives later learned three men had been arguing near a tire shop when the violence broke out. Police said Guerra pulled out a firearm and shot the two men, but they did not say what led to the dispute or explain the full sequence of events before the shots were fired.
Guerra was recently in court, where a judge set bail at $500,000. LVMPD homicide detectives are handling the case as they continue to piece together what happened on one of the city’s busiest east side corridors.
The identification and custody status give the case its first clear suspect, but the central questions remain tied to the argument that started it all and why it turned deadly so quickly.
