Flood Warnings Issued as Heavy Rains Persist Through Tuesday

A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 p.m. for portions of Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe counties. An evening band of moderate to heavy rain moved east and is forecast to exit Bexar County by 11 p.m.

Rain totals of one to three inches have already been reported, with an additional one to three inches possible in pockets. Flood warnings remain active as heavy rains are expected to persist into Tuesday.

Several pockets of moderate to heavy rain have trained over the same areas, raising the flood threat. A disturbance over Mexico is moving east and could produce additional heavy showers and storms overnight.

Impacts and local responses

Recreation on the Comal River is temporarily closed following the Flash Flood Warning. The New Braunfels Fire Department cited the warning in its public release and said resources are staged.

  • Kirby reported dangerous conditions, with high water prompting road closures.
  • Gibbs Sprawl Road and FM 78 are closed because of flooding.
  • Olmos Park closed Gates 1 through 4 at the Olmos Basin; travelers should use alternate routes.
  • Southwest ISD alerted parents that drivers will take extra precautions after overnight rain.
  • Northside ISD warned of possible bus delays via social media channels.
  • Emergency teams have flood-response vehicles and swift-water rescue boats ready.

Forecast and safety

The heaviest threat appears to be ending, but lingering mist and showers will affect the Tuesday morning commute. Tuesday will be cool, yet warmer than today, with highs near the upper 60s.
