Stretford Grammar Headteacher Michael Mullins Dies in Crash; Four Arrested

A long-serving headteacher at Stretford Grammar School has died after a collision on Paddock Lane in Partington on the evening of April 20, 2026. The cyclist, later identified as Michael Mullins, was pronounced dead despite emergency treatment at the scene.

Incident and investigation

Greater Manchester Police said officers attended the collision at around 6.10pm. The location was Paddock Lane near the junction with Warburton Lane and Dunham Road.

Emergency services closed the road while they worked. The car involved failed to stop at the scene, the force added.

Mr Mullins was 56 years old. He had led Stretford Grammar School for 17 years.

Arrests and police appeal

Over the course of the incident, officers made four arrests. Three men and one woman were detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
