Sabalenka Hopes Badosa Returns to the Top Where She Belongs

In Madrid on April 21, world number one Aryna Sabalenka spoke about her close friend Paula Badosa. She offered public support as the Spaniard seeks a return to form.

Support for Badosa

Sabalenka said she stands ready to help Badosa in any way. She plans to spend time with her friend off court, sharing meals and advice.

Badosa entered the Madrid event with a tournament wild card. The Spaniard reached world No. 2 in 2022 but currently sits outside the top 100. Sabalenka expressed hope that Badosa returns to the top. She added that the Spanish player belongs among the game’s elite.

Season Form and Titles

Sabalenka has already won Brisbane, Indian Wells and Miami this season. She will target another trophy in Madrid as she chases a fourth title at that venue.

She previously lifted the Madrid crown in 2021, 2023 and 2025. In 2025 she finished the year with four titles — Brisbane, Miami, Madrid and a United States event — and reached nine finals.

Mental Health and Recovery

Sabalenka admitted her body had been off this season. She said she took time to recover and is now focused on playing her best each match.

She described work with psychologists and other steps to protect her mental health. Sabalenka stressed the importance of a life outside tennis, including dinners, friends and shopping to clear the mind.

Connection to Madrid

The 27-year-old said she feels a special bond with Madrid and its fans. She has played four finals at the Caja Mágica and values the stadium atmosphere and local food.

Sabalenka joked about language barriers and said she is still working on English. Her comments were reported to Filmogaz.com.
