Homelessness Charity Severs Ties with Sharon Osbourne Over Far-Right Rally Support

Centrepoint has stopped working with Sharon Osbourne after she publicly backed an upcoming rally linked to Tommy Robinson. The homelessness charity says it has severed ties with Sharon Osbourne following her apparent support for a far-right rally.

Centrepoint statement

A Centrepoint spokesperson said political activity of this kind conflicts with the charity’s values. The organisation added it has no plans to work with her in the future.

Centrepoint stressed its work supports young people from all backgrounds. It said young people must be free from fear and able to access education and work.

Osbourne’s comment and past involvement

Sharon Osbourne left an Instagram comment saying, “See you at the march.” The comment was made under a post promoting the “Unite the Kingdom” event.

She previously supported Centrepoint via an Omaze fundraising campaign. The charity confirmed she had been described as an ambassador in that context, but she was not an official ambassador.

Rally organiser and date

The “Unite the Kingdom” rally is organised by Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. It is scheduled to take place in London on May 16.

A protest linked to the same group in September reportedly drew between 110,000 and 150,000 people. Authorities and organisers provided those attendance estimates.

Counter-protests in the capital

On the day of the previous rally, a counter-demonstration called March Against Fascism occurred. Stand Up To Racism organised the opposing event.

  • Counter-protesters gathered in Russell Square.
  • Signs read “Refugees welcome” and “Oppose Tommy Robinson.”
  • They chanted, “say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here.”
