Noah Schultz Shines in MLB Debut, Pitches Over 4 Innings for White Sox
Noah Schultz made his MLB debut for the Chicago White Sox against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. The 6-foot-10 left-hander allowed three earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.
He struck out four batters and issued four walks. Schultz had been called up from Triple-A Charlotte earlier in the week.
Debut significance and background
At 22 years and 252 days old, Schultz became the youngest White Sox starter to debut since Michael Kopech. Kopech was 22 years and 113 days on Aug. 21, 2018, against Minnesota. Schultz was selected in the first round, 26th overall, in the 2022 MLB Draft.
The Chicago-area native graduated from Oswego East High School. His hometown sits about 40 miles west of Rate Field.
Triple-A form and prospect status
Schultz arrived in Chicago on the strength of strong Triple-A numbers. He was 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA across three starts and 14 innings at Charlotte.
He permitted six baserunners and struck out 19 of 47 batters faced. Baseball America ranks him as the White Sox’s No. 1 prospect and No. 21 overall.
Roster moves and injuries
The club reinstated outfielder Everson Pereira from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Pereira returned from a rehab assignment at Charlotte.
Pereira, 24, went on the injured list April 5, retroactive to April 3, with a left ankle sprain. He is batting .250 with one home run, one RBI and three runs scored in five games.
Chicago placed right-hander Jonathan Cannon on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 13. The 25-year-old has right hip inflammation after leaving his season debut without recording an out.
