Lauren Silverman Shares Concerns Over Son Eric’s Behavior: ‘It Freaked Me Out’
Lauren Silverman, now using the surname Cowell, has spoken about long-standing concerns over social media and her son. She and partner Simon Cowell welcomed Eric in 2014. The boy is now 12 years old.
Phone rules after a Snapchat scare
Lauren told The Mirror that an incident with Snapchat alarmed her. “It freaked me out,” she said about finding the app on her phone.
She explained Eric had used her phone to play music in the car. She could not see what he was doing while driving.
The couple now permit Eric a phone with strict limits. No social media apps are installed. He may only text and use WhatsApp to contact friends.
Why social media remains a top worry
Lauren described social media as a “nagging fear” for both parents. They delayed giving Eric a phone because of those worries.
Her concerns focus on online safety and children’s wellbeing. She called for public debate centered on protection, not politics.
Campaigning to raise the minimum age
Lauren has joined the Raise the Age campaign. The group includes bereaved families pushing for a higher legal age to use social platforms.
They want a law similar to Australia’s change in December, which set 16 as the minimum age. She urged members of parliament and Labour leader Keir Starmer to act.
Family life and a name change
In a separate interview with HELLO!, Lauren discussed changing her last name to Cowell. She said the change reflected the family unit.
She confirmed she and Simon are engaged and plan to marry eventually. She also said she no longer wished to keep her ex-husband’s surname.
