Comcast Settles Data Breach for $117M: File Your Claim Now

Comcast has agreed to a $117.5 million class-action settlement after a 2023 security incident. Affected customers can file a claim now to seek payment.

What happened in the breach

In 2023, attackers exploited a critical Citrix vulnerability to access Comcast systems. They had access for three days and removed customer data.

The stolen information included names, contact details, dates of birth, and other sensitive records. Financial account information was not taken.

Who is eligible

About 31.6 million people received notice and are eligible to participate. Eligibility depends on whether Comcast previously informed you a breach affected your information.

How to file a claim

You can submit a claim online or by mail. All claims must be received by August 14 for review.

  • Online: complete the online claim form on the settlement website.
  • Mail: print and send the form to Hasson v. Comcast Cable Communications LLC, c/o Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, P.O. Box 5324, New York, NY 10150-5324.

If you prefer to preserve your right to sue Comcast independently, you must mail a written opt-out notice by June 1.

Payments and claim types

Payments will vary based on the number of claimants and their claim types. The settlement allocates $117.5 million to resolve class claims.

Claimants who prove identity theft may seek reimbursement for out-of-pocket losses and lost time. Comcast has not set a total pool specifically for those losses.

Standard and alternative payments

Claimants who document at least five hours of time can ask for up to $150. Reimbursement is capped at $30 per hour.

Alternatively, claimants may accept an alternative cash payment without itemizing losses. That option can pay up to $50, depending on claim volume.

Timing and next steps

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania will hear final approval on July 7. If approved and uncontested, distributions could begin later this year.

Payments may be delayed by appeals or other legal actions. Affected customers should file their claims by August 14 to be ready for distribution.
