Chennai Super Kings Boosted by Star Player Sanju Samson’s Return
Sanju Samson has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March. The award follows his match-winning performances in the T20 World Cup 2026 knockouts.
Samson’s World Cup run
Samson began the tournament on the bench before being recalled for the Super Eights. He returned to the line-up for the clash against Zimbabwe in Chennai.
He produced a career-defining 97 not out against the West Indies in a must-win Super Eights game in Kolkata. He then scored 89 in the semi-final against England in Mumbai. Samson finished with 89 in the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
Awards and recognition
The 31-year-old was also voted Player of the Tournament after India retained the title on home soil. This ICC monthly honour is his first.
Fellow nominees included pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who took four wickets in the final, and South African batter Connor Esterhuizen. Esterhuizen had amassed 200 runs across five matches for his side.
Samson’s reaction
Samson described the recognition as meaningful at this stage of his career. He credited team support and opportunity for allowing him to deliver on big occasions.
Implications for the IPL
Chennai Super Kings welcome the boost from their star player ahead of their IPL 2026 clash with Kolkata Knight Riders. Samson’s return gives the side a timely confidence lift.
