Amanda Seyfried, Rachel Zegler, Sheryl Lee Ralph Join Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘Octet’ Cast
Lin-Manuel Miranda has shared the principal cast for his upcoming film adaptation of Octet. He announced the lineup on Instagram and confirmed rehearsals are underway.

The cast brings together stage and screen performers. Amanda Seyfried, Rachel Zegler and Sheryl Lee Ralph are among the actors now attached to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Octet film.

Production status
Miranda will direct the feature adaptation of Dave Malloy’s Octet. The stage piece first premiered Off-Broadway in 2019.
Rehearsals for the film have already begun. Miranda revealed the casting while sharing the update.
About the musical
Octet is an a cappella work. It examines internet addiction through an eight-person support group meeting in a church basement.
Selected cast backgrounds
Rachel Zegler recently won an Olivier Award for Evita on the West End. Amanda Seyfried most recently appeared in The Testament of Ann Lee.
Jonathan Groff concluded a recent Broadway run of Just in Time. Philippa Soo originated Eliza in Miranda’s Hamilton.
Sheryl Lee Ralph returns to musicals after originating Deena in Dreamgirls. She also stars on Abbott Elementary.
Gaten Matarazzo has musical theatre credits, including Sweeney Todd, while acting on Stranger Things. Paul-Jordan Jansen served as an understudy in a Broadway Sweeney Todd production.
Tramell Tillman is best known for the series Severance. He began his career in several Broadway and Off-Broadway productions.
Miranda’s directing track
This marks Miranda’s second feature directing effort. He previously directed the 2021 film tick, tick…BOOM!, starring Andrew Garfield.
