Amazonas Jazz Band Debuts Unique Performance at Arena Planeta Boi 2026
The Amazonas Jazz Band takes an unprecedented step into the boi-bumbá universe at Arena Planeta Boi 2026. The concert will be staged on the Arena da Amazônia platform.
Maestro Neil Armstrong invited the ensemble to the festival. Band regent Ênio Prieto accepted the proposal immediately.
New arrangements of traditional toadas
Prieto is preparing eight new arrangements of toadas. The set includes both galera and ritual songs, shaped by suggestions from the producer and the vocalists.
The approach preserves the rhythmic core of boi-bumbá. At the same time, it opens the music to other Brazilian references and orchestral colors.
Ensemble sound and direction
The big band formation uses a full brass section and a solid rhythmic base. That setup produces a denser, more orchestral sonority while keeping the toada’s force.
The project aims to carry cultural memory and invite a fresh listening experience. It connects jazz sensibilities with regional folkloric tradition.
