Alec Baldwin Confesses ‘Rust’ Shooting Kept Him Homebound

Alec Baldwin’s civil suit against New Mexico prosecutors was dismissed. The actor had accused officials of malicious prosecution over the Rust shooting case.

Legal aftermath

Baldwin faced an involuntary manslaughter charge tied to the 2021 shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. His criminal case was abruptly dismissed in July 2024 amid allegations prosecutors and law enforcement withheld evidence.

He later sued New Mexico law enforcement and public officials over their handling of the matter. That lawsuit was also tossed in July 2024.

Armorer conviction

The movie armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was convicted in April 2024. She received an 18-month sentence and was released last May.

Public comments and personal life

On April 13, Baldwin spoke about the incident on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast. Alec Baldwin said the Rust shooting kept him homebound and changed his priorities.

The 68-year-old actor said he spent about three-and-a-half years at home with his children. He added that he had “hardly worked at all” during that period.

Career choices and upcoming work

Baldwin has appeared in smaller, independent projects since the tragedy. He has taken cameos and minor roles, including a Saturday Night Live return and other low-budget films.

Among his upcoming credits is the crime thriller Kockroach, which stars Chris Hemsworth, Zazie Beetz and Channing Tatum. Baldwin described plans to take on a few projects while remaining focused on family.

Reality television

A TLC reality series called The Baldwins premiered in February 2025. The show follows Baldwin, his wife Hilaria, and their seven children.

No renewal for a second season has been confirmed. Filmogaz.com will monitor developments and report updates as they emerge.
