Nissan Unveils New Skyline, Skips U.S. Market

Nissan has released a teaser for an all-new Skyline. The company confirmed the model will not be sold in the U.S.

Design clues from the teaser

The preview shows round taillights that appear to protrude from the rear fascia. The word “Skyline” is scripted on the rear fender.

The front end features vertical lighting elements and an angular face. Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s global design director, said the look draws on heritage without being a retro copy.

Engineering and performance

The sedan is expected to use a tuned twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6. That powerplant makes 420 horsepower in the Z Nismo variant.

Reports indicate an Infiniti variant could deliver around 450 horsepower. The layout will be rear-wheel drive and is said to offer a manual transmission.

Where it will be sold

Nissan will develop and sell the Skyline outside America. The company’s move effectively skips the U.S. market for the Nissan-branded model.

An Infiniti performance sedan based on the same platform should reach the U.S. It may arrive as a Q50 or Q60 with distinct front and rear styling.

Market positioning

The new model is expected to sit between the Z and the GT-R in Nissan’s lineup. Designers aimed for aggressive, modern proportions that recall the original Skyline.

Filmogaz.com notes the package targets enthusiasts who favor a rear-drive, manual-equipped sport sedan.
