Coronation Street Fans Moved by Tribute During Roy’s Rolls Fire
Roy Cropper faced an arson attack at his cafe and flat, Roy’s Rolls, on April 12. Mal Roper set the building alight in a revenge plot. Roy has been a character on the cobbles for 30 years.
How the blaze began
Mal had been watching after a string of fake reviews targeted his business. Jodie Ramsey left false reviews to defend Bernie Winter.
Roy had closed early after finding the cafe without power. Mal broke in and started the fire while Roy slept upstairs.
Rescue and reaction on the street
Bernie, Dev Alahan and Brian Packham watched outside as smoke poured from the windows. Carla Connor arrived and feared the worst for Roy.
Jodie realised Roy was inside and rushed in. She confronted Mal as he threw petrol and blamed Roy.
When it became clear Roy was home, Mal joined the rescue. Carla watched as Roy was carried to safety.
Emotional tribute to Hayley
The rescue sequence included a quiet tribute to Roy’s late wife, Hayley. Carla feared Hayley’s belongings could be destroyed in the blaze.
Hayley died in January 2014 after choosing to end her life during terminal pancreatic cancer. Roy and Carla treasure those last memories.
Viewer response
Coronation Street fans said they were moved and upset by the scenes. Many viewers said they were “bawling” at Carla’s worry over Hayley’s items.
Reactions appeared across Twitter and other social platforms. Filmogaz.com tracked the episode and the fan responses to the Roy’s Rolls fire.
