ITV Shakes Up Schedule with Extra Coronation Street Episode Tonight

ITV Shakes Up Schedule with Extra Coronation Street Episode Tonight

ITV has rearranged its lineup this weekend to make up for episodes lost to sports coverage. Coronation Street will air an extra episode on Sunday, April 12 at 7.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX. Emmerdale also adds a make-up instalment, scheduled for 7pm on the same channel.

Why the schedule has changed

The disruption follows planned football coverage next week. Tuesday, April 14 coverage of the Women’s European Qualifier begins at 6.30pm from Wembley.

The match kicks off at 7.30pm and the broadcast is expected to finish at 9.10pm. Because of that, both soaps are removed from their usual weekday slots on that evening.

Recent reshuffles and extra episodes

This is not the first time ITV has moved episodes in recent days. Both soaps have been rescheduled on the last two Sundays after earlier cancellations during the week.

ITV Shakes Up Schedule with these additional airings to ensure viewers catch key scenes. Fans should also note the network’s decision to stream Coronation Street on ITVX for the early showing.

What to expect in Sunday’s episode

  • Summer presses Theo about Billy’s final moments.
  • Christina tries to stop George selling his business.
  • Roy is present while the café goes up in smoke.

Ongoing storyline and next week’s climax

A major domestic abuse plot has dominated Coronation Street for about a year. Todd Grimshaw, played by Gareth Pierce, has endured abuse from partner Theo Silverton, played by James Cartwright.

A standalone episode is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15. That instalment is set to bring the storyline to a head as Todd finally reports his abuse to Lisa and Kit.

The episode will also follow Theo attempting to flee Weatherfield as his behaviour becomes public. Summer remains suspicious about Theo’s possible link to Billy’s death.
