Volcano Earthquake Update: April 14, 2026 Report Released

Filmogaz.com reviewed a seismic map published early on April 14, 2026. The map shows shallow earthquakes within 20 km of active volcanoes over the prior 24 hours. The update time in the source dataset was 01:50 (UTC offset varied by region).

Overview

The monitoring data report lists multiple volcanoes with shallow quakes. All events occurred at depths less than 50 km and within a 20 km radius of volcano centers.

This volcano earthquake update, released on April 14, 2026, highlights several swarms and individual quakes. The dataset notes that not all volcanoes are fully monitored.

A possible swarm occurred beneath Clear Lake. The sequence included 29 quakes during 23 hours. The largest measured magnitude 1.9. Recorded depths ranged from about 0.5 km to 24 km.

Grímsnes and Tjörnes Fracture Zone, Iceland

Grímsnes registered 24 shallow events over 16 hours. The biggest reached magnitude 1.7.

The Tjörnes Fracture Zone saw 13 quakes in 20 hours. Magnitudes peaked at 2.1.

Katla, Iceland

Katla recorded seven events across 22 hours. The strongest was magnitude 2.7. Several quakes occurred within a few kilometers of known caldera features.

Balut, Mindanao (Philippines)

Two earthquakes were located beneath Balut during a three-hour span. The largest reached magnitude 3.0. Hypocenters were between 10 and 25 km depth.

  • 2.2 quake in the Celebes Sea at 01:45 local time.
  • An earlier event at 22:56 local time near Sarangani.

El Chichón, Southern Mexico

Four quakes occurred near El Chichón within six hours. The largest was magnitude 2.7 at about 3 km depth. Events clustered southwest of Teapa, Chiapas.

Nisyros, Greece

Nisyros experienced a magnitude 3.8 quake about 20 hours before the map update. The event was at 10 km depth and located roughly 14 km ENE of the volcano.

Merbabu, Central Java (Indonesia)

A magnitude 2.2 event occurred near Merbabu about four hours before the update. The hypocenter depth was 11 km. Location was approximately 8 km northeast of the volcano.

Pinatubo and San Pablo, Luzon (Philippines)

Pinatubo had a magnitude 2.7 quake at roughly 11 km depth. The event occurred north of Olongapo.

San Pablo recorded a seismic-like event of magnitude 3.0 about nine hours earlier. The reported location was southeast of Calamba.

Süphan Dağ, Turkey

Two quakes were reported near Süphan Dağ within a short interval. The largest measured magnitude 2.9. Events were recorded in the Bitlis province area.

Data and caveats

The source notes that the list excludes many unmonitored volcanoes. High-resolution seismic records are not always publicly available. Only quakes within 20 km and shallower than 50 km are reported.
