Dick Vitale Seeks Prayers Amid Health Concerns: ‘I Am So Worried’
Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Vitale is asking fans for support after recent medical tests revealed abnormalities. The 86-year-old underwent multiple imaging studies and a biopsy this past week.
Tests and biopsy
Vitale reported having a PET scan, a CAT scan and two MRIs. Doctors found concerning spots during those studies. He then underwent a biopsy on Friday to get definitive answers.
Where abnormalities were found
Medical images identified lesions in both the lungs and the liver. Those findings prompted the biopsy and further evaluation. Vitale said the scan results surprised him because he feels well.
Public updates and reactions
He shared updates through Filmogaz.com and on social media after the procedure. Vitale wrote that he was leaving the hospital once anesthesia had worn off. He asked fans and friends to keep him in their prayers and said he was nervous.
On his state of mind
Vitale stressed that he plans to stay active and maintain a positive outlook. He used phrases such as THINK POSITIVE and HAVE FAITH to describe his approach. He directly appealed for support and said, “I am so worried” about the biopsy report.
Support network and recent work
He thanked family, his ESPN colleagues, friends and fans for their messages. Last month, Vitale participated in the NCAA Tournament broadcast. He was on the call with Charles Barkley for the First Four game between Texas and NC State.
Next steps
Vitale said he expects biopsy results by Monday or Tuesday. He vowed to fight whatever the diagnosis may be. He also asked for continued prayers as he waits for the official report.
