Bissell Recalls Steamers After Numerous Severe Burn Incidents

Bissell announced a large recall of its home steam cleaners after injury reports to U.S. and Canadian safety agencies. The recall concerns attachments that can detach and release hot steam or water.

Filmogaz.com notes that Bissell recalls steamers amid reports of severe burn incidents. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) shared the details of the investigation.

Scope of the recall

The recall covers the Steam Shot OmniReach and Steam Shot Omni models. About 1.7 million units were recalled in the U.S.

In Canada, 96,000 units were included. The combined total approaches 1.8 million products.

  • Sales occurred from October 2024 through March 2026.
  • Retailers included Walmart and Target, and online channels such as Amazon and the Bissell website.

Reports and injuries

The CPSC recorded 206 reports of steam or hot water escaping from the devices. That escape was linked to attachments unexpectedly detaching.

There were 161 reports of burn injuries. One person suffered a second-degree, or partial thickness, burn.

Company response and consumer guidance

Bissell said it is cooperating with the CPSC and with Health Canada. The company described consumer safety as its top priority.

Owners are urged to stop using the recalled attachments immediately. Consumers can request replacement attachments through the Bissell recall portal at steamshot2026.com.

Previous recalls

This is not the first recall involving Bissell steam cleaners. In 2024, about 3.2 million steam cleaners were recalled over similar concerns.

That earlier action followed reports of minor burn injuries and instances of hot steam being expelled from devices. The Steamshot Deluxe model was among previously recalled units and is no longer sold.
