Utah Faces Freeze Warning Amid Rain, Snow, and Hail

On Thursday, April 2, 2026, workers at Lambert Growers in West Valley City covered plants with frost cloth. Kim Walsh-Clark and Charlie Clark carried out the work to protect vulnerable stock.

The effort came as a cold snap threatened local vegetation. Officials had issued a freeze warning for parts of Utah as rain, snow and hail moved through the region.

Growers respond to the threat

At the nursery, staff laid frost cloth over benches and young plants. The coverings were placed quickly ahead of the overnight low temperatures.

Precautions and outcomes

Some plants are especially vulnerable to early-season freezes. The right precautions, like the coverings used at Lambert Growers, can help keep them alive.
