Most modern Galaxy phones will transition to Google Messages as the default SMS/RCS app. The Galaxy S26 series already ships with Google Messages and does not include Samsung Messages.
Devices running Android 11 or older will continue to support Samsung Messages. Samsung cited compatibility as a likely reason for keeping the older app on those devices.
