The New York Islanders replaced head coach Patrick Roy with Peter DeBoer on Sunday. Roy was fired after three seasons and a 97-78-22 record following his Jan. 20, 2024 promotion. DeBoer, 57, had been dismissed by Dallas in June and led the Stars to three straight Western Conference Final appearances.
Blue Jackets skid
Columbus lost its sixth straight game, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Winnipeg Jets. Kyle Conner, a Shelby Township native, scored twice, including the go-ahead goal in the third period.
AHL and junior highlights
The Grand Rapids Griffins beat the Manitoba Moose 7-2. Wojciech Stachowiak recorded his third straight multi-point game and has 11 points in five contests. Michal Postava made 31 saves to improve to 15-6-0.
Detroit Honeybaked won the OHL Cup, the first U.S.-based program to capture the tournament. Austin Hall scored twice in the 3-1 final and was named tournament MVP after leading with 14 points.
PWHL attendance mark
Madison Square Garden hosted a U.S. single-game attendance record for the PWHL. The New York Sirens drew 18,006 for a 2-1 shootout win over Seattle. Detroit’s Elle Hartje led the Sirens with six shots.
