Snooki: snooki reveals Stage 1 cervical cancer diagnosis

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi has revealed that she has been diagnosed with Stage 1 cervical cancer, she said on Feb. 20 after a doctor’s appointment that delivered cone biopsy results. Snooki shared the news in a TikTok and urged women to continue routine Pap smears.

Diagnosis and cone biopsy details

Polizzi, 38, said, "It came back Stage 1 cervical cancer called adenocarcinoma, " and added, "Thank freaking God!" She described having a cone biopsy, a procedure in which abnormal tissue is removed from the cervix for testing. Polizzi said doctors "took out what was, like, the tumor, the cancer that was in there, but then around it was clear. " She noted, "So there were no cancer cells on that, which means it didn’t go up into the cervix, which is a good thing, " while also acknowledging there remains a chance the cancer could spread in her body.

Snooki next steps and scan

Polizzi said her next step will be a PET scan. After consulting with her oncologist, she said her plan is to undergo a hysterectomy; the oncologist presented other options as chemotherapy or radiation. Polizzi stated she will keep her ovaries and that the hysterectomy would remove the cervix and uterus, adding that the final plan "all depends on the PET scan. "

Symptoms, screening and prevention

Polizzi urged women not to delay routine Pap smears, saying, "I’m 38 years old and I’ve been struggling with abnormal Pap smears for three or four years now, and now look at me. " The story notes that cervical cancer is a growth of cells that starts in the cervix and that various strains of human papillomavirus (HPV), a common infection passed through sexual contact, can cause most cervical cancers. When exposed to HPV, the body’s immune system typically prevents the virus from doing harm; however, in a small percentage of people the virus may survive for years and contribute to the process that causes some cervical cells to become cancer cells.

Trends and prevention measures

Incidence of cervical cancer has been increasing in women in their 30s and early 40s, even while it has decreased for women in their 20s. Cervical cancer is highly preventable in part because of the HPV vaccine, and routine screening such as the HPV test and the Pap smear can find the cancer early. Symptoms of advanced cervical cancer can include abnormal vaginal bleeding, pain and discharge.

Background and earlier developments

Polizzi first shared news that doctors had found cancerous cells on her cervix in a Jan. 20 TikTok after undergoing a colposcopy and biopsy whose results came back abnormal. She described a multiyear history of abnormal Pap smears and said she had delayed care in the past because she "didn’t want to go, because I was hurt and scared, " but that she ultimately went and the cancer was found early. Polizzi said, "It was there, cancer is in there but it’s Stage 1 and it’s curable. " She also commented, "2026 is not panning out how I’d like it to, " adding, "But also, it could be worse. " Polizzi is a mom of three and is known for her role on "Jersey Shore. "
